Screen replacement is, together with logic board repair, the most common MacBook repair in our shop. In most cases there’s no need to replace the whole display assembly — the panel alone is enough.
When the screen needs repair
- Cracked or broken screen — after a drop, closing the lid on something or pressure on the lid.
- Lines, stains, a distorted or disappearing image — a common fault in MacBook Pro and Air models made after 2016.
- Purple image or no image — often caused by the T-CON signal cables, so-called flexgate.
- Screen after liquid damage — sometimes repairing the control electronics is enough.
Panel only, not the whole display assembly
Many repair shops suggest replacing the whole display assembly — the complete top part of the computer — when the screen is damaged. We replace just the panel and keep your housing.
- Cheaper — you pay for the panel, not the whole assembly.
- New panel — brand new, from the manufacturers that supply Apple’s screens (most often LG Display and Sharp).
- No lost features — True Tone and backlight brightness control keep working.
- Even with a bent lid — in about 95% of cases the panel alone can be replaced.
Replacing the whole display assembly (then a recovered one) is a last resort for us. When quoting, we present the available options — the decision is yours.

What is the difference between replacing the panel and replacing the whole display assembly?
The display assembly is the whole top part of the computer — housing, hinges, camera, antenna and panel. When replacing the panel alone, we keep your housing and replace only the damaged part. This makes the repair much cheaper, and the computer keeps its original components.
Is the new panel original?
We fit brand-new panels from the same manufacturers that supply Apple — most often LG Display and Sharp. Features such as True Tone and backlight brightness control keep working.
The lid is bent. Can the panel alone be replaced?
In most cases, yes — in about 95% of repairs the panel alone can be replaced, even if the lid is bent. We assess it during the initial diagnosis.
My screen has lines or a purple image but isn’t cracked. Does the screen have to be replaced?
Not always. The cause is often damaged T-CON signal cables (so-called flexgate) or the screen electronics. In that case we replace the cables or repair the electronics, and the panel stays.
How long does a screen replacement take?
It depends on the model and parts availability. After the initial diagnosis we give you an expected timeframe and cost range — we never start without your approval.
